Christmas Concert on Two Pianos

A Christmas concert of piano music by Claire and Antoinette Cann provided a first class evening's entertainment on 12 December in All Saints Church.

The evening consisted of a wide range of music from Tchaikovsky, Blyton, MacDowell, Borodin and Gershwin, including two pieces arranged by Claire and Antoinette. To add to the entertainment there was a musical quiz where four carols were played using different musical forms in the style of well-known composers. There were many correct entries and, even though the winners were the first correct ones out of the tub, that well know Customer Services Manager at the railway station was one of the winners.

The evening was a joint event hosted by the Friends of Holy Trinity and SOAS - involving staging from Meldreth, lighting and interval drinks from Melbourn, and an excellent programme layout from Claire and Antoinette's father that was used to produce the programmes sold on the night.

Claire and Antoinette recommended Empire Pianos to provide two small Grands and it was intriguing to see them delivered, assembled on the stage with limited space and finally tuned. There were two minor panics as rehearsal started one piano had a small squeak in the pedal movement and the lighting arrangement caused shadows over the key boards of both pianos - a spot of 'grease' and two standard lamps resolved these.

The evening produced a gross income of £1,750 and after expenses should provide over £1,300 to be shared between the Friends and SOAS. Both organisations are extremely grateful to Claire and Antoinette for giving freely of their time - the audience thoroughly enjoyed the programme as was witnessed not only by the applause but the sale of over 60 CDs and Tapes.
