Car Show

Sunday 11th September

Our first event of this type went well despite rather dull and damp weather with a threat of rain – over forty cars and few motorbikes spanning 90 years turned out and were spaced around the church yard arranged by make or interest groups.

The variety was very wide and to mention any one without all of the others is a little invidious but the writer's personal favourite was a wonderfully restored bright red 3 wheeled Morgan with a Matchless V twin Engine. The cars were largely displayed in makes Ford, Austin & Healey, Jowett, VW, Jaguar E Types, MGs, Rover, Riley, Triumph TRs Stag and Spitfire, Ferraris and Fiat Abarth, and the real gems – Renault Monasix, Lea Francis, Rolls Royce, Bugatti and Rochet Schneider.

We did not have a Concours competition but there was a 1964 MGB which was so clean that it looked as if it had just come from the showroom and it was closely followed by a 1967 TR4A.

Cream Teas were also served and the net proceeds from the event were over £500 – from this first show we can see the possibility of increasing the size of the show and it turns out that many of the exhibitors have other interesting cars that were not displayed so there is definitely scope for a future event.

We are most grateful to all of the exhibitors who turned out despite the risk of rain which enabled the Friends to organise this new event which not only raised some useful funds but gave pleasure to both exhibitors and those who attended the show.
