The Grove Singers and Chamber Ensemble concert was very successful after
slowish ticket sales a week before the event. The choir of 33, led by their conductor Brian Newman, gave a very
professional performance to suit all tastes.
The first half of the programme was a mixture of church music, folk songs and traditional songs like 'Swing Low Sweet
Chariot' and 'Shenandoah'; the second half was devoted to Vivaldi's Gloria, where the chamber ensemble of 10 and an
organ provided the accompaniment to the choir and soloists.
The Friends are particularly indebted to the Grove Singers for their entertaining performance as many of them travelled
quite a distance, some from as far away as Eastboume, while no charge was made for the concert. Some 60 or so people attended,
which resulted in a net profit of around £300 after a donation was made to the Grove Singers funds.
