More Reminiscences

Saturday 6th October 2007

An entertaining evening was had by all as Ann Handscombe, Raymond Course and Dennis Pepper recounted some of their early memories with some pictures to add interest.

We heard amongst the many tales of a schoolboy who swallowed a badge awarded for cleanliness of his hands and fingernails, a young girl who woke up a army officer with a wet flannel who was in a sleeping bag in a farm yard recovering from night time training and a member of a Homeguard platoon who blew up a slab of concrete in Camb Pits as a goods train was passing near by.

The History Group very kindly recorded the evening and has produced a well edited and indexed 90 minute CD which can be purchased for £5.00 with the proceeds going towards the History Group's running costs and Friends funds – if you would like a copy please contact Tim Gane on 01763 260129.

You may also be interested in seeing the Meldreth area on the Cambridgeshire Community Archives Network, which contains more than 300 images from the village's past, with more being added all the time. The History Group is also having an Open Day on Sunday 18th November 2007, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., in the Village Hall.
