With an excellent sunny day and delayed spring, we were very fortunate to have a record-breaking Spring Gardens event this year. In all there were nine locations for visitors to wander around, mainly flower and shrub gardens, some including vegetables, plus the allotments in Fenny Lane and a vegetable garden in Whitecroft Road.

As ever, we are most grateful to all the exhibitors for their preparation, which attracted our visitors and provided interest and enjoyment and without which we would not be able to raise funds.

This year we had a number of additional attractions, which we hope encouraged visitors and added to their enjoyment:

• a garden design voucher, kindly donated by the Garden Design Centre, based at Scotsdales, which was raffled and was won by the Ellis family from Melbourn
• a Vegetable Club stall selling plants, exchanging ideas and organising a children's quiz; the winners were:
• 1st: Imogen (Meldreth) and James (Melbourn)
• 2nd: William, Jakob and Leila (Meldreth)
• 3rd: Edward & Matthew (Impington) and Henry (Meldreth)
• two comprehensive art displays in the church by Lizanne van Essen and Ros Ridley, which provided a further attraction for our visitors

In addition there were teas that are always popluar and add to our funds. These are only made possible by the hard work of those who kindly donated refreshments and served them throughout the busy afternoon.

Finally our thanks go to all those who gave their time and effort making the Spring Gardens a successful village event, not forgetting, of course, those visitors who came to it and provided their support.
